This is a scaled down version of the original Comet Vought F4U Corsair that I scaled to half the size of the original. I scratch built everything except for the thrust bearing for the propeller. The canopy and propeller where a first for me to scratch build. The canopy was made by building the shape onto the fuselage and carefully heating up .005 Clear-Lay Film to achieve the desired shape. I built a jig to get the three bladed propeller and each blade is made from two layers of birch plywood using a can for the shape. I designed the skin to represent Gregory “Pappy” Boyington’s Corsair from VMF-214 the Black Sheep. I designed the skin on photoshop after completing the airframe and stenciling the panels to get a smooth even surface. My total construction time from start to finish was about a month.
