Scheme is “Genesis II” during Operation Desert Shield somewhere in Saudi Arabia. Tamiya kits always deliver, great, every part fits properly and with good detail. Truly enjoyable straightforward build. One thing you need look for is to properly cut the mesh for the turret metal basked, it is also a little cumbersome to mount. I opted not to use the rope provided to simulate towing cables and used braided steel wire instead. Used Black Mr. Surfacer 1500 as primer overall, then Tamiya flat white XF-2 to make the color variations and contrasts to break the monotonal scheme that was applied using Mission Models MMP-038 US Desert Tan Modern. Everything was then protected with an acrylic gloss coat. For the tracks, which were rubber, I painted them with Mr surfacer primer first, then with Vallejo Burnt iron and a good wash with Flory Models Brown wash mixed with a little AK “sienna soil” pigments to give a little sand texture. For the wash, I again used Flory Models Brown which didn’t give much contrast but just enough to give the “dirty dust” in some flat surfaces. These tanks did not get too much dirty operating in the desert so I held back a little on doing much on the hull except I applied a good dose of black washes and Tamiya smoke to simulate soot and dirt on the back of the engine bay. The decals were the ones provided in the box. After applied, the setting solution used was solvaset, a product that has been reliable and full compatible with all brands of decals I’ve used so far. After it dried, a light coat of acrylic matte finish was given over the whole surface to call it complete.
